I drove from Knoxville, Tennessee. We met in Bowling Green at the Western Kentucky University Library. Recently, quilts, correspondence, and scrapbooks belonging to Elizabeth Richardson were donated to the library.<br /><br />Why are these items so important? Elizabeth Richardson was a quilt historian and lecturer who corresponded with two of the most important people involved in mid 20th century quilt history: Florence Peto and Dr. William R. Dunton Jr. She bought quilts from Florence Peto and accepted historic cloth remnants from Peto who encouraged her to use them for her lectures and to make quilts.<br /></div><br /><div align="left">She wrote to Dr. Dunton at the end of his life. He’d written his book <em>Old Quilts</em>, but bemoaned the fact that it had not been well received. He appreciated her interest and encouraged her to expand her quilt career. </div><br />><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpCr1FFFlLjXRuaFUGYsGLO4hOmfyjLHe40CEjFgxtWHSSzuxZkaOisLMm9sJxAXTIzZ3sZoUqlZSAC0zpCjeQ-zpDEwuTcgVL5snmOIcLLxw92Xup9eHsL-ett1aWGbPE4gESrleEvRg/s1600-h/100_0950.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377370216351414562" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpCr1FFFlLjXRuaFUGYsGLO4hOmfyjLHe40CEjFgxtWHSSzuxZkaOisLMm9sJxAXTIzZ3sZoUqlZSAC0zpCjeQ-zpDEwuTcgVL5snmOIcLLxw92Xup9eHsL-ett1aWGbPE4gESrleEvRg/s200/100_0950.JPG" /></a> <span style="font-size:78%;">Quilt (Parrots and Pheasants) 1840-1860</span></div><br /><div align="center"><span style="font-size:78%;">Elizabeth Richardson Collection. I said at the time I would play and not worry about deadlines for a month and I did.<br /><br />Now it's September 2, 2009 and I am starting a blog.<br /><br />My very patient friend Barbara Brackman is here helping me set it up. Deb Rowden is also here cheering me on. What will I blog about? Hmmmm. I could simply share stories of the quilts that come my way in a serendipitous kind of way and entertain you all.<br /><br />I'm sure I'll be sharing thoughts and photos of my favorite chintz medallion quilts, Sears Contest quilt stories, and doll quilts like the one above from my latest book <em>Childhood Treasures: Doll Quilts Made By and For Children. </em><br /><em></em><br />To read more about the induction weekend at the Quilters Hall of Fame, click here<br /><br /><a href="http://thequiltershalloffame.blogspot.com/2009/08/celebration-2009-report-part-i.html">http://thequiltershalloffame.blogspot.com/2009/08/celebration-2009-report-part-i.html</a> </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>and here are a few more pictures from my doll quilt book.</div><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-rMgS92ogJNUgPZImcHQl73bJrYINeEhhy7pJaSKGEtqCvCVQ0LlPS1b4JhHnnADeLSfTvo3hMnwBBJoS-EnVJ-zd2DWUjB-YUPV8kCc_inuLoVn_OtxKPsUFkXEY7OQsRNvGIFR_QIY/s1600-h/Ghormley+Doll+Quilts+Jun+06+009.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 261px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376963660356255650" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-rMgS92ogJNUgPZImcHQl73bJrYINeEhhy7pJaSKGEtqCvCVQ0LlPS1b4JhHnnADeLSfTvo3hMnwBBJoS-EnVJ-zd2DWUjB-YUPV8kCc_inuLoVn_OtxKPsUFkXEY7OQsRNvGIFR_QIY/s400/Ghormley+Doll+Quilts+Jun+06+009.jpg" /></a><br /><div></div><em>One-Patch (Mary Ghormley Quilt #470 International Quilt Study Center & Museum)<br /><br /></em><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZWImIIULVeWYYPWji88Vx7esalz4KrfodrOPZgcu0nSrSSzyCgz6ELovp9RTId9LbXimUuG0FzllQDcYc1hNFvqWxuR1bzhctGwtaW4iTuWj1-aKrx3at3mMUFGPH-Ut7cTOh9un4qF8/s1600-h/Ghormley+Doll+Quilts+Jun+06+140.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 281px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376962385272969986" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZWImIIULVeWYYPWji88Vx7esalz4KrfodrOPZgcu0nSrSSzyCgz6ELovp9RTId9LbXimUuG0FzllQDcYc1hNFvqWxuR1bzhctGwtaW4iTuWj1-aKrx3at3mMUFGPH-Ut7cTOh9un4qF8/s400/Ghormley+Doll+Quilts+Jun+06+140.jpg" /></a><br /><em>Flying Geese (Mary Ghormley Quilt #420 International Quilt Study Center & Museum)<br /></em><div></div></div></div>Quilts Alivehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17061921563224926427noreply@blogger.com2
